Three students from Lawrence Technological University attended sixth annual national conference of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) held in Scottsdale, AZ, Jan. 2-5.

Representing LTU’s SVA chapter were mechanical engineering student Kirill Pavlov, a 10-year Army veteran and chapter vice president; electrical and mechanical engineering student Joey Arrowood, an eight-year Navy veteran and chapter treasurer; and engineering technology student Arthur Connor, a six-year Army and chapter secretary. The University sponsored the trip with a $2,000 contribution.

SVA seeks to support veteran groups on campuses across the country with a network of resources. The annual national conference provides seminars, workshops, and networking sessions. This year’s theme was “Pioneering Social Change.”

The LTU Veterans Group is affiliated with SVA. The LTU group’s president is Army veteran Stephen Pavlik, who is pursuing a doctorate in business. eLearning Services Director Richard Bush is the faculty advisor.

The next LTU Veterans Group meeting will be on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. in M215B. For information about the group, contact Pavlik at pavs115@yahoo.com or Pavlov at kirill_pavlov@ymail.com.

LTU ranked 18th in the 12-state Midwest region – and first in Michigan – in the inaugural ranking of the best colleges for veterans compiled by U.S. News and World Report. LTU was one of 234 colleges nationwide that scored well for graduation rate, faculty resources, reputation and other markers of academic quality measured in the 2014 edition of U.S. News Best Colleges.
