The First Year Interest Group Leader (FIG Leader) provides an opportunity for upper class students to help new students experience a positive transition to college. The FIG Leader will be assigned to one First-Year Interest (FIG) Group. A FIG is made up of one FIG Leader and approximately 15-20 new students who select into the interest group. FIGs are based upon a specific interest, passion or identity that helps build small communities for new students as they begin their college experience

FIGs will meet for the first time during Discovery Days the weekend before classes begin. Groups will continue to meet regularly through the academic year.  FIG Leaders offer peer insight into academic and social life at college, as well as help introduce students to activities and events on campus. The FIG leaders will help students make the transition to college as smooth as possible for first year students.
