Gerald LeCarpentier, Ph.D.

Gerald (Jerry) LeCarpentier is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Tulane University. He earned both his master's degree and PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He moved to Michigan in 1988, and has held a number of academic positions at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, UM-Flint, Wayne State University, the University of Detroit Mercy, and Schoolcraft College. His academic experience includes finite element modeling, ergonomics and motion analysis, laser-tissue interactions, electrophysiology and implantable devices, and various multimodality medical imaging analyses and device development. He is a member of various professional engineering organizations, peer-reviewer of various professional journals, and has served on national funding agency review panels.
Yawen Li, Ph.D.
Dr. Yawen Li received her BS and MS from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, and her PhD from MIT, all in materials science and engineering. She went on to complete her postdoctoral training in the Center for Engineering in Medicine affiliated with both the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Mansoor Nasir received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University of Cincinnati and Ph.D.in Bioengineering from University of California-Berkeley. Dr. Jeffery Morrissette was born and raised in the Detroit metropolitan area and studied biology as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. Dr. Zwiesler-Vollick is a native Michigander. She received her BA in Biology and her BS in Chemistry with a Biochemistry emphasis from Hope College in 1997. Dr. Jensen received her Ph.D from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Her specialization is Material and Structural Engineering. Research interests include construction and highway materials with special emphasis on Portland Cement Concrete, highway analysis and design, and distress development of concrete pavements as affected by environmental and mechanical lading. Dr. Bou-Akl received her MD degree from Bulgaria in 1988 and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University in 2006. She completed her postdoctoral studies on cardiovascular Tissue Engineering at the children's Hospital of Michigan and on bone TE at Wayne State University. Her research focuses on biomaterial characterization and cell-biomaterial interaction both in vitro and in vivo. Dr. Pappas received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and MS and PhD in Systems Engineering from Oakland University. The primary topic of his research was estimation techniques in cellular wireless communications systems. During his research in power estimations in cellular communication networks, extended his investigation in applications in health care environments. Focus is on systems that transmit and receive biopotential or nonelectric values over wireless cellular networks. He investigates different statistical methods for parameter estimation of linear and nonlinear model in dynamic mobile communications biomedical systems. LaVetta Appleby has been teaching at LTU since 1996. She instructs both undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry. She recently received funding to develop a hybrid online version of the course Fundamentals of Chemistry. She has also developed and taught hybrid online chemistry courses for the MSE curriculum. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. While completing her undergraduate degree, she worked in Research and Development at Dow Corning Corporation in Midland, MI. She continued her studies at Michigan State University to obtain a Master of Science in Chemistry 1996. Her research interests includes: chemical education and computational chemistry. She is the Faculty Advisor for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and she is the co-faculty advisor for the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. She is also actively involved in the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).
