Campus Safety patrols campus 24/7 on foot and in vehicles, secures unlocked doors and buildings, questions suspicious persons, and investigates suspicious vehicles or activities. Officers document all incidents; accidents; complaints; violations of University policy, rules, or regulations; and crimes on behalf of the University.
Incident Reports are impartial reports documenting occurrences on campus. They can be filled out by anyone on campus.
To report an incident, download LTU Incident Report .
University records on all campus incidents are available for viewing by the University community. Contact 248.204.3925 or email@example.com to arrange an appointment.
Campus Safety enforces the University’s Public Welfare and Safety Regulations. Campus Safety officers conduct primary investigations, complete LTU Incident Reports, and determine whether a more in-depth investigation is required or whether the matter is under the jurisdiction of the Southfield Police or state or federal agencies.
Campus Safety provides emergency alerts to the University community when events on campus affect large numbers of people who need to be notified quickly. These alerts can contain such information as safety precautions, weather closings, power outages, or criminal activity.
The Rave Alert System allows parents, students, faculty, and staff to sign up to receive text messages and/or multiple email messages.
Campus Safety enforces the University’s Parking and Traffic Regulations and the laws of the State of Michigan in the case of handicap or fire lane violations.
Officers document all automobile collisions with LTU Incident Reports. It is strongly recommended that collisions also be reported to the Southfield Police Department as most insurance companies require a police report. The Southfield Police Department (248.796.5500) is located at 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, MI 48076, between 11 Mile and 10 Mile Roads at the corner of Evergreen Road and Civic Center Drive.
Campus Safety vehicles are equipped with self-contained car battery quick chargers and portable air tanks. Officers do not open locked vehicles or change tires.
Parking Decals and Passes
Campus Safety provides parking decals to members of the University community and parking passes to visitors.
In compliance with the Federal Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 (also known as the Clery Act), as amended through July 1, 2003, and the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000, LTU posts annual safety statistics on October 1 for campus and other locations at which classes are held.
